Firefox 6 Is Available in the Official Ubuntu 11 04 Repositories

Firefox 6 (the most secured web browser in the world, kidding, but its pretty darn good though, right? :D) was available for Ubuntu 10.10 and 10.04 users even before it was officially available for the Natty users.

And if you havent disabled your automated updates in Ubuntu Linux, then as soon as they release it you should have it automatically install it. But since I have manually disabled the update manager because it uses too much of your bandwidth which can result in a cluttered YouTube videos :D (kidding, again, but I do have it disabled for other reasons)...

Ive also been a bit busy yesterday and until I manually check this morning I didnt know it was available to Natty users. Anyhow, to install it (in my humble opinion, I think unlike with other releases, FF6 is well worth the update because as promised by Mozilla, it loads itself pretty faster than the previous versions) , perhaps you should re-enable the update manager t OR

just fireup your Terminal window and enter the below command to install the sucker!.

sudo apt-get install firefox
If youd prefer a more cleaner installation, then first remove your current Firefox browser completely (make sure to take back-ups of your Bookmarks and other naughty stuff), then use the below command first.
sudo apt-get purge firefox

That should do it.

Dweller 1 16 11

First of all Id like to apologize for the problems with GetJar downloads of Dweller for J2ME devices. Even though I have explicitly specified the release to be available for *all* J2ME devices the GetJar service responds with:

"Weve got good news and bad news: weve figured out that you have a <insert_phone_model_here> mobile phone, but unfortunately Dweller RPG wont work on that phone"

This is complete rubbish and I do expect a swift answer from GetJar on my support ticket. Please use the Handster download link for now and Ill make a post here once GetJar works as expected.

Now on to the release. This is whats been done so far:

#121 Monsters should not interact with braziers
#126 Merchant should never sell artifacts
#89 Add an option to "use until full health"
#139 Add names to credits
#141 Dont show quickslots all the time on non touch enabled devices

Evernote Tips and Tricks Series 11 merge notes create table of contents create notebook stacks

Evernote Web Clipper graphic

Im a huge fan and user of Evernote, and lots of people ask me for tips on using it, so Im starting a series of blog posts on Evernote Tips and Tricks to share some great tips and ideas for using Evernote.

Tip #11 - merge notes, create table of contents, notebook stacks

Evernotes layout of notebooks and notes is great for organizing, but there are some more great features too.

1. Merge Notes - Simply select the notes you want to merge together (hold CTRL or SHIFT as you select each one) and then click "Merge". This merges the notes together into one note with the first note you select as the top note. Each note title is shaded providing a sort of page break between each note. This is a great way to consolidate multiple notes into one - very useful when you are adding/creating notes from different sources into Evernote or for cleaning up completed projects.

Please note: If you make a mistake merging notes or would like to retain the original notes, restore each individual note from your trash.

2. Create a Table of Contents - This creates a note with a list of all of the notes you selected (hold CTRL or SHIFT to select notes) with the title of each note being a hyperlink to the actual note. This is great for project management so you have a list of all projects/tasks on one note, as a unit plan with a list to each lesson plan and resource, or for writing with a list of each chapter.

3. Create Notebook Stacks - you can organize a bunch of notebooks into a "stack" where they are all organized. For example, I have a notebook stack for my consulting projects which has different notebooks underneath including clients, project files, resources and more.

In Evernote for Windows and Mac, select the notebooks from the left side menu, drag and drop one notebook into another notebook and it will create a new stack containing both notebooks. You can add more notebooks by simply dragging them into the stack.

Evernote for iOS
1. Navigate to your notebook list view.
2. Tap Edit in the upper right screen.
3. Select the information icon (“i”) next to the notebook you would like to move to your stack.
4. Tap Stack.
Evernote for Android
Adding notebooks to a stack with Android is a one-step process!
1. Press and hold a notebook and select ‘Move to stack’ or ‘Move to new stack’

More great features from Evernote that allow you to be more organized and efficient.

Eye Candy Make your Ubuntu 11 04 Desktop look like Mac OS X with Mac4Lin and AWN

I had written post earlier about how you can transform your Ubuntu Desktop into looking like Mac OS X, it become instant hit and to this day I get number of people looking for information about transforming their Ubuntu desktop to look like Mac OS X, and hence I decided to write an updated tutorial. Macbuntu is one alternative, though at the time of writing this post I could not find Macbuntu version for Ubuntu 11.04 and forcefully installing Macbuntu have lead to stability issues and hence I would avoid this approach.

The desktop should somewhat resemble interface of MacOS X, after following the below mentioned steps.

I would be assuming that you are using Ubuntu Classic here and not Unity, I have found Unity to be extremely irritating to work with and I dislike it very much. You can switch to Ubuntu classic by changing to Ubuntu Classic in GDM screen.

Mac4Lin is made by GTK Developer Anirudh Acharya, with the aim of bringing Aqua user interface to POSIX based platform, in simpler words, to operating system the likes of GNU/Linux and hence distributions like Ubuntu.

We would first need to download Mac4Lin theme package and install it onto the system, you can do so easily by issuing the following commands in terminal ( Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal ) window :

wget http://space.dl.sourceforge.net/project/mac4lin/mac4lin/ver.1.0/Mac4Lin_Install_v1.0.zip
or alternatively you could look into the source forge page and download the latest archive from multitude of mirrors. Source forge download page of Mac4Lin - http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac4lin/

Once you have downloaded the archive, you need to extract it, you would need to have unzip installed on your system to do so, if you do not have unzip installed you can do so by issuing the following command in terminal window :

sudo apt-get install unzip
However, if you decide to extract this using terminal you can do so easily by issuing the following command :
mkdir $HOME/mac4lin
unzip Mac4Lin_Install_v1.0.zip -d $HOME/mac4lin
This should extract the archive into mac4lin directory, you would need to execute shell script to install Mac4Lin theme, chdir into mac4lin directory and then chdir into Mac4Lin_Install_v1.0 directory, once you are in the directory, issue the following command to execute the shell script and begin installation :
./Mac4Lin_Install_v1.0.sh
This should begin the installation procedure, it would ask few questions, you should answer them, and for installing it might need root permission as well and hence would need sudo password,if you follow the instruction carefully Mac4Lin should be installed in Jiffy.

Different installation screens of Mac4Lin

Now you need to install Avant Window Navigator, if you havent installed it already, there are many docks for GNU/Linux, I have found AWN to be extremely stable and good looking and hence I would be using this in this post, additionally, it integrates with Mac4Lin well.

You can install AWN by issuing the following command in Terminal Window :
sudo apt-get install avant-window-navigator
If the above step completed successfully, you are done transforming your Ubuntu 11.04 based system to a Pseudo MacOS X kind of look. I would recommend after installing AWN and Mac4Lin you restart your system, or at the very least restart X server.

You need to select the newly installed theme, you can do so from System -> Preferences -> Appearance , you should find Mac4Lin Graphite and Mac4Lin Aqua there, based on your personal preference and likes you can chose either one of them, I prefer Mac4Lin Aqua :)

AWN does not load by default and needs to be started from ( Applications -> Accessories -> Avant Window Navigator ), I would advise that you get rid of panel at the bottom (if you are using Ubuntu classic i.e ) by right clicking on the panel and choosing to get rid of panel.
